All readers will agree that Medicine is a noble profession and that the Doctors are life savers. How do we thank a doctor, who goes out of his/her way to ensure that the patient survives and leads a healthy life? Words and gifts are gestures that fall short of even reaching halfway to the level of gratitude.
Man is selfish by nature and very very few of us are truly selfless. Those who are selfless are the only true Human beings .I will tell you from my personal experience . In fact the matter is from yesterday. My father is hospitalised with a sudden drop in his Platlet count ( Platlets are blood component. Read about platlets at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platelet ). On 15th November, the day of his admission in hospital, my father's platlet count touched 20000 from a normal of at least 150000. He was having haematuria ( Loosing blood though urine, Read about Haematuria at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hematuria ).
We needed to infuse platlet concentrate along with blood plasma. Even after administering 18 units of platlets my father was fast loosing the platlets , the doctors then advised Platletpheresis ( Apheresis of the platlets, Read about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apheresis) . Now, this process involves getting a donor of the same blood group as the receipent ( in this case my father). I and my brother both have the same blood group, but unfortunately, our veins are too thin for the procedure and hence were looking for alternate donors.
At this stage, the treating doctor, whom we know for only last ten days, volunteered to donate. now this process of Apheresis , although not exactly a very painful procedure is not a painless thing either. At the same time the whole procedure involves about 3-4 hours. The doctor, not only did volunteer, he insisted that he would donate.
We an only say that he had no expectation from us, nor he is related by any relationship to us, but what he has done for us brings no word out of our throats...instead tears come out with the warmest of the feelings from our hearts.
No amount of thanking him will ever be enough. As I type this blog..tears form again. My father is still in hospital, but he is much better.. Dear Readers please pray for him. I wanted to write this blog, so that any of you who has lost hope on humanity, can rest assured that there are indeed Human beings amongst us.
Thanks Doctor Prateek. I shall be eternally indebted to you.

My father was again hospitalised and was put in the Intensive Care Unit..however with wishes from angels like you, he has been shifted to a normal room and we think in 3-4 days' time, he should be back home. Thanks once again for the support.

Shy.

I just came across your uplifting post. It is a miracle to have the doctor offer to give blood platelets since as you said it is not a painless procedure. This is a complete, all-around blessing for the doctor, your dad, you, and your friends at blogsterville. I hope your dad is well. Blessings, Carol
Hello Carol,
Thanks for your kind words. Alas, my father passed away on the 31st of ecember 2007. He fought till his end..but he said his last goodbye peacefully. I am sure, as I type this , he is looking down from the heaven above, maybe twinkling as a star, which brightens everytime, when I look skywards.
Regards.
Oh, I just this second read this about your dad passing away 12/31/07. I am so sorry. I thank G_d he died peacefully. We are only separated from our loved ones who go to Heaven for a very short time. To be remembered, cherished, and loved, like you do your dad is the greatest gift a son can give his dad. It is a very good thing. In deepest sympathy, Carol
Thanks Carol.
