When in China, Do as the Chinese Do

                                                  1st Part

Of all the dozen odd countries that I have visited, China holds a special place in my heart. This fondness, does not come from the fact that I have been there more than 20 times. Rather, it comes in spite of that. Most people, these days, would associate China with the rapid industrialization and her march towards being the "factory Of The World" , nevertheless the sense of mystery that China has, still fills my heart.

I have been fortunate enough to learn from a large number of friends that I have in China now. Many social etiquette and culture in India find their mirror in China and vice-versa.

If you are able to speak Chinese ( The mandarin dialect, which is derived from the Pekingese dialect) you get much appreciation( I cannot speak beyond a few words). However, if you are able to use chopsticks you win a lot of friends. Another thing is about pronouncing the Chinese names, if you are well versed with Pinyin then its a piece of cake. I have managed to learn.

One important thing in China : Face ( self respect, social grace, respect all rolled in one) is a big thing. Never argue loudly or shout at anyone. The person loses face immediately.

I will write some more in the following weeks....
